Jack Kampmann (1914-1989)
I first came across the work of Jack Kampmann about 15 years ago whilst visiting a client’s house. They had a lovely small collection of his prints which they had found on family trips to Denmark and I was immediately struck by the beauty of these seemingly simple compositions of buildings set in a coastal landscape. This landscape was the Faroe Islands where Jack Kampmann had settled after World War II. Influenced by Cubism and in particular Paul Cezanne, Kampmann’s work captures the dramatic nature and wild landscape of the coastal villages of the Islands. His compositions are incredibly atmospheric and their almost naive quality immediately draws comparisons with the work of the St Ives artist Alfred Wallis.
Since seeing his work for the first time I have collected and sold a wide range of Jack Kampmann’s original prints. Below are photos highlighting just a small sample of the pieces I have had over the years. I look forward to finding more examples.
