Glasgow Style Arts and Crafts oak magazine stand
Glasgow Style Arts and Crafts oak magazine stand
Description: Glasgow Style Arts and Crafts oak magazine stand. Strong architectural design. There are a few versions of this design, some in walnut or mahogany, some with circles rather than square cut-outs, and some with inlays or carvings. This example is probably the earliest and most pure of the design - the truest interpretation of the Glasgow Style / Glasgow School.
Designed by: Attributed to John Ednie
Manufacturer: Wylie and Lochhead, Glasgow. Other retailers sold them but Wylie and Lockheed were the original manufacturers.
Date: 1905
Dimensions: Width 36.5cm; Depth 25.5cm; Height 99cm
Condition: Excellent, original condition. The oak is a lovely deep colour with strong grain pattern. Structurally strong - minor wear and a couple of knocks from use over the years - mentioned for absolute accuracy and certainly doesn’t detract from the overall design.
An excellent example of Glasgow Style Arts and Crafts furniture. Probably the best example of this design I have had.
