Description: Stunning figurative bronze sculpture. A striking, powerful and stylised figure in the manner of Socialist Realism but also showing the influence of the ‘Return to Order’ Classicism. There is a similarity to the figurative work of Picasso in the 1920s when he entered his Neoclassical phase.

Artist: Serge Ponomarev - Russian (1911-1984) - signed and dated 1949.

Biography: Ponomarev studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris from 1932. He briefly returned to Vilnius to complete several commissions before settling in Paris until 1944. He exhibited regularly at the Salon and at the Tuileries.

Dimensions: Height: 56cm; Width of base 31cm; Depth of base 20cm; Height 16cm.

Condition: Excellent original condition. Wonderful colour and patina to the bronze.

A stunning, imposing and very decorative piece of 20th century sculpture.
