Original Jack Kampmann print
Artist: Jack Kampmann (Danish 1914-1989) - signed
Title: “Kvivik” - village on the west coast of Streymoy, Faroe Islands. Kvivik is one of the oldest settlements in the Faroes and excavations have shown the remains of Viking houses.
Artist biography: Jack Kampmann settled in the Faroe Islands after World War II. He was a painter and graphic artist as well as an accomplished art teacher, which was to benefit Faroese artists greatly. Many of his paintings show a profound influence from Paul Cézanne's compositions, together with the dramatic nature and wild landscape of the Islands. Kampmann was very influential in bringing Cubism to the Faroe Islands. Faroese Cubism is quite different from the originally intended analytical Cubism of Picasso and Braque; in Faroese Cubism the tangible reality is never far away.
