Artist biography: Murray McCheyne was a sculptor and teacher who attended Edinburgh College of Art from 1930-35, studying under Alexander Carrick. Between 1936-38 he furthered his knowledge by travelling to Copenhagen, Athens and Florence. In the 1950s and 1960s he became Master of Sculpture at King’s College, University of Newcastle and whilst there undertook various public commissions. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Scottish Academy from 1935-1952, at the Royal Glasgow Institute from 1938-1953, and the Palace of Arts , Empire Exhibition Scotland in 1938.
