Arts and Crafts 'Breakespeare' oak sideboard, Bartholomew & Fletcher
Arts and Crafts 'Breakespeare' oak sideboard, Bartholomew & Fletcher
Description: Arts and Crafts ‘Breakespeare’ oak sideboard. Wonderful architectural detailing. I have seen this design attributed to Liberty and Co but an advert in ‘The Studio’ from 1899 shows it be by Bartholomew & Fletcher.
Ref: ‘Liberty’s Furniture 1875-1915’, Daryl Bennett, Antique Collectors’ Club, page 187.
Manufacturer: Bartholomew & Fletcher, 219 Tottenham Court Road, London. See photo of advert from ‘The Studio’ 1899.
Date: c.1900
Dimensions: Width 138cm; Depth 54cm; Height 171cm
Condition: Untouched original condition. The solid oak frame is a lovely rich colour. Structurally strong. Some wear to the finish from 100+ years of use. I have decided to sell it with the original finish but the oak would strip to a golden colour if the buyer preferred this look.
